Overdose é uma banda brasileira de heavy metal surgida na década de 80, na cidade de Belo Horizonte.

História

Considerada uma das bandas mais antigas do cenário da música pesada no Brasil, foi formada em 1983. Com dois anos de carreira a banda lançou seu primeiro trabalho (1985) em um álbum dividido com a banda Sepultura (Século XX/Bestial Devastation).

Depois de várias turnês (incluindo tours com o Sepultura, e aberturas de shows para bandas como Testament, Kreator e outras) e cinco álbuns lançados no território nacional pela gravadora brasileira Cogumelo (Século XX, Conscience..., You're Really Big, Addicted to Reality e Circus of Death), a banda firma um contrato com a gravadora norte-americana "Futurist Label Group" (1993) e lança seu sexto CD a nível mundial, Progress of Decadence. Este acordo rendeu à banda duas turnês norte-americanas (USA e Canada), uma européia, vários festivais e grande exposição na mídia especializada internacional.
Foram mais de 90 shows no exterior só no ano de 1995, seguindo-se o lançamento de seu sétimo trabalho, Scars e mais duas turnês norte-americanas. Em seu primeiro contato com o público no exterior, o Overdose apresentou-se em 40 shows ao lado das bandas americanas Skrew e Spud Monsters, conseguindo uma excelente resposta por parte do público. O grupo também se apresentou ao lado da banda Carnivore, a qual integra Peter Steele, vocalista da banda Type O Negative, em um show na famosa casa noturna de Nova Iorque, Lime Light.
Em sua segunda tour no exterior, o Overdose já passa a ser a banda principal com outra banda americana, Dead Orchestra, e os clubes lotados em suas apresentações foi uma resposta gratificante, um reconhecimento de 13 anos de trabalho sério. Em sua turnê européia a banda foi suporte para o Grip Inc.(banda do ex-baterista do Slayer, Dave Lombardo), tocou em alguns dos principais festivais deste continente, como: Dynamo Open Air (Holanda), Megafolies (França), Rock Affligem (Bélgica) e outros. Nestes festivais o Overdose dividiu o palco com bandas como Type O Negative, L7, Biohazard, Sick of It All, Mad Ball, Nail Bomb, Machine Head, Dog Eat Dog, entre várias outras.
Após uma breve respirada no Brasil a banda é convidada para tocar numa das duas maiores convenções de rádio dos Estados Unidos, “CMJ”. O Overdose se apresentou novamente no Lime Light, na noite principal do evento, ao lado de bandas consagradas e outros nomes emergentes no cenário internacional, como: Skid Row, Korn, Clutch, Warrior Soul, X Cops, dentre outras. Este convite não foi por acaso, visto que o Over emplacou quatro músicas nas rádios norte-americanas, chegando a ocupar a quarta posição geral e mantendo-se por mais de dois meses no Top-ten das rádios de Colleges deste país.
Ótimas críticas sobre o Overdose se espalham por todo o mundo e inúmeras entrevistas, matérias e comentários dos discos são realizadas pelas grandes revistas de rock em geral, dentre as quais podemos citar: Guitar, Rip Magazine, Hit Parader, Hard Rock, Metal Maniacs, Live Wire, Metal Hammer, Request, Hard, Foundation, CMJ, Gavin, entre centenas de outras revistas e fanzines espalhados nos quatro cantos do planeta.
O álbum Scars conquistou a segunda posição geral nas rádios de rock norte-americanas, sendo vinculado em mais de seiscentas emissoras, com uma execução semanal superior a 1.500 vezes, e por vários meses sustentando-se no Top-ten das rádios de College deste pais.
Enquanto a banda aguarda nova viagem ao exterior, o Overdose mostra para o público brasileiro o show que conquistou europeus e americanos, e apresenta seu mais novo reforço, Jairo Guedez, já conhecido do público como integrante da banda The Mist e guitarrista nos dois primeiros discos do Sepultura. A nova formação do Overdose conta ainda com mais um reforço, o novo baixista Gustavo Monsanto, proveniente da banda Angel Heart do Rio de Janeiro. Desta forma a banda pretende reverter para seu país natal todo o sucesso e reconhecimento que vem sendo conquistado no exterior.
